Urban transportation in developing regions faces
challenges due to unreliable public transit, traffic congestion,
and limited access to high-end mobile devices and stable internet
connectivity. Although ride-sharing applications offer on-demand
mobility, many existing systems are feature-heavy, leading to
increased resource consumption and reduced usability in con-
strained environments.
This paper presents Chitoz, a lightweight ride-sharing mobile
application prototype designed to provide essential services with
minimal computational and data overhead. The system focuses
on core functionalities, including near real-time ride requests,
live trip tracking, flexible payments, driver verification, and
digital receipts. Chitoz employs a modular three-tier architecture
comprising a cross-platform mobile frontend, a REST-based
backend, and efficient data management. Functional and inte-
gration testing indicate stable performance, fast response times,
and suitability for low-resource urban contexts.
